Ms. Agnes Mak has
over 20 years of experience in information technology,
with a proven track record of using IT as a tool for
business growth and performance improvement, operations,
and cost control in alignment with business objectives,
policies and priorities. Prior to joining SUNDAY, she
was the Head of IT of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes
Authority, Head of IT - Asia Pacific North of British
American Tobacco China and the Director of MIS of The
Gap (Far East) Ltd.
Ms. Mak has been a
strong advocate in the IT community along with her successful
full-time career. She was the President of the Hong
Kong Computer Society and is currently , a council member
of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, a member of the
Finance Committee of the Hong Kong Housing Authority,
a member of the General Support Program Vetting Committee
of the Innovation and Technology Fund and the Chairperson
of the Information & Communications Technology /
Industry Training Advisory Committee of Education &
Manpower Bureau.
Ms. Mak has been encouraging
professionalism among IT specialists and has initiated
the establishment of a framework for assessing and certifying
IT professionals. Having a strong commitment in IT education,
Ms. Mak has conducted and lectured at numerous career
talks and seminars organized for Hong Kong schools while
chairing the IT in Education Committee of the Hong Kong
Computer Society. Her objective has always been one
that addresses both the technical as well as the social
aspects of IT usage, In the past 15 years, Ms. Mak has
served as a member and chairperson of various Advisory
Committees related to Computer Science/Information Technology
in a number of tertiary educational institutions where
her expertise and advice on curriculum development and
evaluations are highly valued.
Ms. Mak has played
a key role in promoting IT usage in Hong Kong. She initiated
the establishment of the "IT Excellence Awards"
by the Hong Kong Computer Society in 1998 and has served
as the chairperson of the Organizing Committee since
then. The Awards aim to encourage greater use of IT
by stimulating greater creativity and competition in
software developments. After only a few years, the awards
have enjoyed a strong and stable image and have attracted
the interests of both local and international investors.
