IT20 Signifies the United Front
of Hong Kong's IT Sector
IT20 is an alliance formed
by 20 of Hong Kong's IT professionals, whose candidacy
at the Election Committee Sub-sector Election
has been confirmed valid. The objective of IT20
is to work for the interests of the IT Sector
as a whole and to strive for the most favourable
environment for the development of IT industry
in Hong Kong. Elected candidates will be announced
at the Election Committee's poll in December.
IT sub-sector, among a total
of 35 subsectors, has 20 seats in the 800-member
Election Committee whose major function is to
elect the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, who shapes
our society and the way the government works.
The Chief Executive's policies affect our livelihood,
our business environment, our future and our next
generations.
IT20 brings together some
of the industry's most promising talent and professionals,
among whom are chair of publicly listed companies,
university professors, senior executives of IT
enterprises, public sector, and professional bodies.
Coming from different professional affiliations,
members of IT20 are well equipped to promote
the breadth of experience, the range of views
and the diverse backgrounds which will contribute
to the healthy development of IT industry in Hong
Kong. Paul Kan has been elected as the Convener
and Spokesperson of IT20, with Daniel Lai
and Samson Tam as coordinators.
According to Paul Kan, Convener
of IT20, "The alliance is born out
of a common vision shared by members of the IT
industry. We have the same commitment to society
and we are here to play an active part in making
our contributions. In that regard, we believe
that a united front under IT20 would be
more effective and resourceful in achieving our
twin goals of representing the IT sector in electing
our Chief Executive, and to foster a favourable
environment for the healthy growth of, and creation
of job opportunities within, the IT industry in
Hong Kong, thereby contributing to Hong Kong's
prosperity and sustained economic growth."
IT20's agenda covers the
lobbying of the government regarding policies
and issues concerning Hong Kong's IT industry;
active pursuit of tax concessions for our IT products
and services under CEPA (Closer Economic Partnership
Arrangement); and facilitating closer collaboration
between the IT industries of Hong Kong and Mainland
China.
Members of IT20 met with the press today
to deliver their election platform.
