Currently the Chairman of EDS HK and with 38 years of IT experience, Mr. Lau has held a variety of senior management positions in both the public and private sectors, including Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Head of Government Data Processing Agency (the precursor to The Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) and Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO)), Asia Pacific Head of Technology for Citicorp Investment Bank, and President of Greater China, EDS. Conscientious of the importance of environmental protection and nature conservation, he served as the Chief Executive of WWF HK, the global conservation organization from 2003-2004.

Mr. Lau is active in professional and community affairs. He holds chairmanships/ memberships of a number of advisory committees of the Government and universities. In 1997, Mr. Lau was appointed to serve as a board member of the Hospital Authority. He is currently the Vice President (External Affairs) of the Hong Kong Computer Society and a Founding Member of the Greater China Project Management Advancement Committee (GPAC). In September 2004 Mr. Lau was elected as a Director of the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation (HKIRC), an organization initiated by the Hong Kong Government to provide market-oriented Internet domain name registration services. In September 2006, He was elected Chairman of the provisional Board of Governance for the Hong Kong IT Professional Certification Scheme, which is being established to advance the professional standards and recognition of IT professionals in selected specialties.

In 1984, Mr. Lau was awarded the Member of the British Empire (MBE) for his outstanding service to the Hong Kong Government and the community in the area of information technology. In 1986, he was awarded Distinguished Fellow of the Hong Kong Computer Society. In June 2001, he was appointed JP (Justice of the Peace).
