Ir Dr LO Wai Kwok has 30
years of industrial experience. He is currently director
of Queenspring Limited and some other institutions and
organizations. He is a highly experienced and seasoned
industrialist and community leader, devoted a lot of time
and effort to promote the information industry of Hong
Kong.
Ir Dr LO was formerly President of
Artesyn Technologies Asia-Pacific Ltd. (named Computer
Products Asia-Pacific Ltd. before 1998) for 18 years.
The company was Asia-Pacific division of the reputable
multinational Artesyn Technologies, Inc., headquartered
in Florida, and by then listed through NASDAQ. Under
his leadership, the company became a world-class designer,
manufacturer and distributor of power products for the
world communication, computer and network market, and
won a lot of prizes. It became the first ISO9001 certified
company in Hong Kong in 1991, won both the Productivity
and Quality Awards in the 1992 Governor's Award for
Industry, became the first ISO9000 certified company
in Zhongshan City in 1993, and has achieved various
managerial and technological breakthroughs. In mid 2006,
the parent group Artesyn Technologies, Inc. was acquired
by Emerson. Ir Dr LO completed his management duties
and left the company.
In 1991, he led an expert group to
visit Beijing, and organized, together with the Postal
and Telecommunication Industrial Company (PTIC) and
the Beijing University of Postal and Telecommunication,
a power technology seminar for the national telecom
enterprises. He cooperated with PTIC to introduce advanced
power module technologies to the telecom industry in
the mainland, promoted new design concepts of communication
products in this up and coming market.
In 1994, he was invited by the Ministry
of Electronic Industry and the National Defense Technologies
Committee to give lectures on the ISO9000 management
system for technology enterprises, and on the ways to
promote product quality. Representatives from various
trades and industries and from the military attended
the lectures.
Ir Dr LO has been striving for the
development of the information industry of Hong Kong.
He promoted technology collaborations and professional
exchanges with counterparts in China mainland and in
overseas. He has led many study missions for the industrialists,
engineers and professionals to visit various countries
and regions, including many cities and provinces in
the mainland, South East Asia, Japan, South Korea, America
and Europe.
He also invited experts, scholars
and industrialist from the mainland to visit Hong Kong.
He was Vice Chairman of the Hi-Tech Exhibition in Hong
Kong in the year 1997, showing outstanding projects
in the national “863 Plan”. He was President of the
Guangdong-HK Association for the Promotion of Technology
Enterprise from 1997 to 2001, and is currently Vice
Chairman of the PRD Council. With these capacities,
he promoted collaboration between Hong Kong and Guangdong
in the development and advancement of technologies.
Ir Dr LO was elected senior member
of the China Power Supply Association in 1996, and became
its first council member from Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan
in 1997, helping the development of power electronics
technologies in the mainland. He was appointed member
of the Zhongshan City e-Government Expert Group in 2000,
helping the municipal government to apply IT in the
growth and development of the city.
Ir Dr LO is Vice President of the
Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and Past Chairman
of its IT Division. He is famous for his voluntary services
in the professional and business circles. He has been
providing advisory services for the tertiary education
institutions for years. He is Adjunct Professor of the
City University of Hong Kong, and Guest Professor of
the University of Electronic Science and Technology
Zhongshan College. In the past ten years, he has extended
his services to the community, and has been member of
the Shatin District Council since July 1997.
